about

"If you have the same fondness as we do for '30s jazz guitar and Leo Kottke on the Takoma label, you would probably enjoy this collection immensely.
And if you are not particularly enamored of that kind of stuff, it still wouldn't be a bad thing to keep around the house as a local exemplar of eclectic guitar instrumentals.
-Butch&Brenda : The Noize (Rock Around Boston) April/May1994

"The Man sure has his way with the boogie!" -Ruth Brown, presenting me on NPR's live show "Blues Stage" ( Thank you Bruce!) right after a live version of Ol' Bike Boogie.
One guitar-no vocals, my 1rst "official" recording was release on 100 cassettes in the early 90's. Features a plywood Aria 12st, a historic '91 Gibson J185 (thank you Ren Ferguson), a very very cheap Harmony electric guitar, & a plywood Stella. Recorded with a blunt SM57, fueled by coffee, nicotine and a playful but pissed off attitude with something to prove. So yes, some of it is embarrassing (take a guess). I took out a couple of neglected overdubbed natural harmonics on black Mountain Rag. All solo guitar with long hair. Regarding the weird head-scratching title track, "Mechanical Snake Blues" how would you call that kind of music? Hmmm Robert Fripp meets Robert Johnson?..Ever heard the expression "Prog Blues"?...Me neither...but yet here it is. Not sure what I was thinking, but I was feeling it. So go ahead, scratch your head, it's ok, I understand...or just sit back and let it ring.
